Friends of the IYB Mission

Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau (FIYB) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Ithaca Youth Bureau (IYB) in fulfilling its mission. In light of increasing youth needs and decreasing government budgets, the FIYB helps the IYB to provide recreation and youth development programs to promote the health, happiness, and well-being of all youth and families in the greater Ithaca area.

The Ithaca Youth Bureau offers participants from all backgrounds, walks of life, identities, abilities and lived experiences a broad range of recreation and youth development services, supports, and opportunities to enable them to thrive.

When the IYB celebrated its 75th Anniversary, participants were asked what one word describes their IYB experiences!

Friends of the IYB Seeks Your Support!

This year we are sharing a list of examples of what your gift can do! You can choose to designate a specific program need, or you can provide more general support of the Ithaca Youth Bureau’s mission.

Your financial support of the Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau in this moment will allow critical programs to operate, provide additional resources and supports for young people and families who need it most, and help to ensure that we can safely and effectively offer opportunities and implement alternative means.

*When generous community members wanted to help restart IYB programs, FIYB received $110,000 from a foundation and through the United Way.

*$2500 of FIYB funds were allocated so IYB staff could assist client families who were particularly impacted adversely with small grants to families in need.

The federal 2020 CARES Act expanded tax deductibility of gifts to nonprofits like the Friends of the IYB.

*If you file standard deduction (90% of Americans) you are eligible to deduct up to $300 of charitable gifts

*If you file itemized deductions (10% of Americans) you are eligible to deduct up to 100% of adjusted gross income

*If you file as an incorporated business, you are able to deduct charitable gifts up to 25% of taxable income

New Board Member Joins Friends of the IYB Board

Lindsay Glasner has joined the Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau (FIYB) board, according to Jeff Love, board president. A native of the Ithaca area, she currently works as the K-12 Outreach Coordinator for the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. Glasner graduated from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell and recently completed a master’s degree through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She has volunteered in the past at the Sciencenter, Floating Classroom and Trumansburg Elementary School.

Glasner considers Ithaca home and is “eager to support the community, especially with developing youth. What better way to give back then to become part of the FIYB team!”

Love also announced that he was elected for another term as FIYB president, and that Allen Green is Secretary, and Eric Nichols is Treasurer. Mary Grainger also serves on the board and as coordinator of the Cass Park Arena Enclosure Campaign.

The FIYB board has additional openings for volunteers who are interested in its mission to promote positive, engaging opportunities for youth by raising community awareness of and building financial support for the services and programs of the Ithaca Youth Bureau.
